Howard Dean

Former presidential candidate and Democratic National Committee Chair Howard Dean will kick-off a weekend conference sponsored by the Democratic Party of Oregon when he speaks at 6:30 p.m. Friday, June 2, in the Eugene Hilton Hotel and Conference Center.

The biennial convention also will feature speeches from prominent Oregon Democrats including Gov. Ted Kulongoski, Senate Majority Leader Kate Brown, House Democratic Leader Jeff Merkley, members of Congress Darlene Hooley and Peter DeFazio as well as Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden.

Although the public can attend Dean's speech, some training sessions and formal proceedings, including voting on the party platform or endorsing ballot initiatives, can be attended only by convention delegates. Delegates are selected at the county level and are apportioned according to the number of total registered Democrats in that county.

"Gov. Dean is providing unprecedented support to local organizing, and no one is more inspiring or energizing to our volunteers," said Lane County Chair Val Hoyle. "With his help, we're ready for some big wins in Oregon this November."
