ATLANTA (AP) _ Health officials say the number of confirmed swine flu cases in the United States has jumped to 64. One Mexican toddler died after being transported to Houston for medical treatment.

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says Monday that the new count includes "a number of hospitalizations'' but they did not say how many. CDC officials had said there had been just one person hospitalized.

The cases are still only in the five states where they previously were reported. There are 17 new cases in New York City, four more in Texas and three additional cases in California.

That brings the total confirmed cases to 45 in New York City, 10 in California, six in Texas, two in Kansas and one in Ohio.

The disease is also spreading worldwide, with confirmed cases in Canada, Austria, New Zealand, Israel, Spain, Britain and Germany.

To help prevent transmission of the virus, you can wear a "N95 Respirator Mask" and practice the following habits: hand washing, not touching your nose or mouth with unclean hands, eating a nutritious diet, getting plenty of rest and exercise, avoiding contact with people who exhibit symptoms, managing stress, and avoiding close contact with infected persons.
