August Wilson’s Seven Guitars Presented by PassinArt

Portland, Oregon—PassinArt: A Theatre Company presents August Wilson’s Seven Guitars from Wilson’s 10-play Century Cycle, also known as The Pittsburgh Cycle, which explores the African American experience decade-by-decade in the 20th century.

The Pittsburgh Hill District is the setting in 1948 for Seven Guitars. As the character-driven story begins, friends gather after the funeral of a blues musician. Dramatic events leading up to this moment are seen in powerful flashbacks. Actor Telvin Griffin plays the role of blues musician Floyd “Schoolboy” Barton. Griffin says, “ It is my dream and goal to impact someone, so I love telling stories that need to be told. Music inspired me to tap into the character of Floyd. Music speaks to your soul.”

The cast includes Telvin Griffin, Taylore Mahogany Scott, William Earl Ray, Josie Seid, James Dixon, Jerry Foster, and Tyharra Cozier.
