The Joint Office of Homeless Services has reviewed the weather forecast and, while conditions do not meet “Severe Weather Thresholds,”overnight temperatures are predicted to be at or below 32 degrees on Dec. 5 and Dec. 6, 2018.

Anyone seeking shelter should contact 211info, reached by dialing 2-1-1 or visiting www.211info.org. 211info will be available to identify shelter and warming center resources and review transportation options 24/7 for Multnomah County. Community members are asked to be vigilant watching out for their neighbors in need. Anyone who has concerns about someone they observe who appears to be unprepared for the cold weather and does not seem to be capable of caring for themselves should call Police Non-Emergency, 503-823-3333 and request a “welfare check.” If it appears that the person’s situation is mental health-related, the Mental Health Crisis Line can be reached 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at 503-988-4888. If the situation appears to present an imminent risk to the person’s health or safety, dial 911.

Union Gospel Mission 15 NW Third Avenue, Portland 97209 Intake: Walk in Hours: Wednesday/Thursday, December 5-6, 2018 from 9pm-5:30am Serves: Adults age 18 and older. No pets allowed. Only service animals will be permitted. No capacity for large, bulky items.

Dignity Village Warming Shelter 9401 NE Sunderland Avenue, Portland 97211 Intake: Walk in Hours: 8am-10pm Serves: Age 18 and older. Sobriety required. Pets in carriers will be accepted on a limited basis; owners are responsible for taking care of their pets.

 

WINTER SHELTERS

Walnut Park Winter Shelter 5329 NE Martin Luther King Junior, Portland OR 97211 Intake: Reserve a spot by either calling 503-280-4700 Monday-Friday 8am-4pm or walking in to the Transition Projects Day Center Monday-Friday 7am-7pm, Saturday/Sunday/holidays 8:15am-4pm (650 NW Irving Street) Hours: 5pm-7:30am, 7 days per week Serves: Male and female-identified individuals and couples age 18 and older, with priority for individuals age 55 and older, adults with disabilities, and veterans. Well behaved pets allowed.

North Portland Winter Shelter at Portsmouth Church 4775 N Lombard Avenue, Portland OR 97203 Intake: Call or visit website to get on the roster. 503-490-0285. Please do not call the church or come to the church to be referred. Hours: Monday-Saturday 8pm-7am, Sunday 9pm-7am Serves: Individuals and couples over the age of 18. Family Winter Shelter NW Portland, 97209 Intake: Call 211 to be screened for intake eligibility. Hours: Intake line: 9am-9pm, 7 days per week. Intake: appointments vary by availability but occur from 6:30pm-11pm. Shelter: 7 days per week 6:30pm-7:30am December-April Serves: Homeless families (children and parent(s)/legal guardian(s), not extended family) and individuals in their 3rd trimester of pregnancy who are sleeping outside or in a vehicle. Assistance animals permitted with documentation.
